Germany!
Okay, so I’ve been babbling about “this Germany trip” for a while now. The itinerary has been finalized and I’ll be there in two days, so I figured it’s time to let everyone know what’s going on.
Friday, 3/12; Anchorage/En Route
Leave Anchorage at 9am. Get into Berlin at 3:40pm on 3/13
Saturday, 3/13; Berlin
Check into hotel. Go on orientation tour of the city.
Sunday, 3/14; Berlin
SING morning service at the Berlin American Church. City tour of Berlin (Check Point Charlie/Berline wall, Kaiser Wilhelm Kedactniskirche, Brandenburg Gates).
Monday, 3/15; Berlin/Leipzig (approximately 2 hours)
Travel to Leipzig. Visit Thomaschurch and Bach exhibition. Guided walking tour of Leipzig (St. Thomas Church, Pleissenburg Castle, Bach Museum, Opera House, New Gerwandhaus Concert Hall).
Tuesday, 3/16; Leipzig/Prague (approximately 3 hours)
Travel to Prague. Walking tour of downtown (St. Charles Bridge, Nove Mesto, St. Nikolaus Church). Lunch in Old Town Square. Continue Tour in Castle District.
Wednesday, 3/17; Prague
Walking tour of Castle District (including inside visit of St. Vitus Cathedral). SING evening concert at Kostel U Jakobova.
Thursday, 3/18; Prague/Vienna (approximately 3.5 hours)
Travel to Vienna. Lunch stop with wandering time in Telc.
Friday, 3/19; Vienna
Walking tour of downtown area (State Opera House, Karntnerstrasse, St. Stephen’s Cathedral). SING informally at St. Stephen’s Cathedral. Continue tour (Graben and Kohlmarkt, Imperial Palace, end at Hofburg complex, which houses the Imperial Treasury, Spanish Riding School, and Imperial Chapel, where the Vienna Boys Choir does their masses). Afternoon visit to Bad Schonau (the countryside). SING at Marienchurch.
Saturday, 3/20; Vienna
Morning sightseeing tour (Hofburg, former Imperial Residence, Ringstrasse, Opera House, Votive Church, St. Charles’ Church, Musikverein). End tour at Schonbrunn Palace and gardens. Visit graveyard where Haydn, Beethoven, Schubert, Brahms, Strauss, and others are buried.
Sunday, 3/21; Vienna/Salzburg (approximately 3 hours)
Travel to Salzburg. Stop for inside visit of Melk Abbey. Stop at Matthausen to visit WWII concentration camp.
Monday, 3/22; Salzburg/Munich (approximately 1.5 hours)
Morning sightseeing tour of Salzburg (“Sound of Music” sights, Mirabell Palace Gardens, Mozart’s birthplace). SING informally at the Salzburg Cathedral. Travel to Munich.
Tuesday, 3/23; Munich/Anchorage
Depart early morning flight to return to Anchorage. Get in approximately 6pm AKST.
Friday, 3/12; Anchorage/En Route
